The Dogs.
Our dogs, first of all, are our companions and all are treated as so called house dogs that live in the house and sleep on the couches.
Depending on the weather conditions they can walk in and outside the house or to the playground during most of the daytime and can do whatever pleases them and they feel like doing.
We have no kennels nor do we desire to keep our dogs in kennels.
Our philosophy and strict policy has always been and will maintain to breed only with healthy dogs. All our dogs are chosen carefully and with no exception after 1990 officially tested for Hips and Deafness prior to breeding. The Sire and Dam are careful selected in order to be able to maintain line breeding the bloodlines involved and trying to improve there strong points as making it our goal to eliminate the weaker points.
To us, breeding is a serious business and for that reason we do not breed dogs by random or because dogs might be Top Winning Dogs in the Show Circuit but come from all kinds of various bloodlines.
For us line breeding means keeping as close as possible to the type of dogs we like without losing consistency and always looking thoroughly not only to their strong but also there lesser points. When necessary an outcross is done, back related to an ancestors of our bloodline.
We believe that our breeding policy (only pure American bloodlines) and the selections - combined with US imported dogs from Lynann and Kadon bloodline dogs - of the last 25 years has proven to be very successful, leading to what Fanchon and Dunley dogs represent nowadays.
We, at Fanchon and Dunley, being both members of the ' Vereniging van Liefhebbers van de Engelse Setter ' (Dutch English Setter Club, short VES) have always submitted and send in prior to any breeding of a chosen combination to be performed the health clearance certificates of the dogs involved. In all the past years we never bred any combination that didn't meet the requirements as obligated and stated in the breeding regulations of the Dutch English Setter Club (VES). This mend we needed to deal with disappointments and on some occasions had to make hard decisions although we never considered using a dog we knew had a health problem not even when the malfunction was not included in the existing breed regulations or officially not qualified as a fault by the Dutch English Setter Club (VES).

Some of the dogs we had in the past loved and where very eager to go to the Shows but others did not like it at all. They did not gain the Ch. Title for all kinds of reasons. After training and trying for a acceptable but short period to get them interested in going to shows and perform as we hoped they would but noticing during this process they really had no feeling and pleasure for this ' ritual ' we let them stay at home. We have always respected their personalities and in case a dog did not like the show procedures we accepted this as for us they are no lesser than the others nor a reason to replace such a dog but instead had lot's of fun with them at home. Several of them played a big role as a stud dog or brood bitch and produced many winning dogs through there offspring and passed on the genes of our bloodlines involved.
It is for this reason we like to include pictures of these dogs although they didn't became a Champion as we consider them very important for us to keep line breeding and be able to maintain the type of English Setter as preferred by us.
